Physical therapy on your terms
(not your insurance company’s).
We got sick of insurance companies telling people how many physical therapy sessions they could have. So, we ditched them…and came up with a new model to better serve our patients.
We know this might be the first time you’ve come across a cash-based physical therapy practice.
But don’t worry…we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
Cash-based physical therapy is easy and cost-effective.
We’ll break it down for you below.
-
What is cash-based physical therapy? And why should I choose to work with you if I have insurance? We’re glad you asked! Check out our other section under "How Our Payment Process Works" to get an idea of how cash-based physical therapy allows you to achieve your goals quickly and the way YOU want.

What does “mobile physical therapy and wellness” mean? There are quite a few things that make us stand out from traditional physical therapy practices and wellness services… We travel to where YOU are - whether that’s at home, your office, the local track, or virtually via telehealth. We’ll help you recover from an injury…and help prevent injuries from happening in the first place! Many people think physical therapy is just for recovery from surgery or to help with weakness. At Power in Motion Rehab, we’re focused on providing preventative, proactive care and rehabilitative physical therapy. Read more about the specific services we offer. You’ll work 1:1 with a board-certified physical therapist for your entire session. That’s 5x as long as most PT clinics in the Pittsburgh area! More direct time with your physical therapist = faster progress towards your goals. Your PT will provide you with a completely customized plan designed to help you reach your goals. You’ll have ongoing support between visits. Your physical therapist is only a phone call, email, or FaceTime away. We’ll be able to quickly troubleshoot questions or problems between sessions – so your progress never slows down. With mobile physical therapy as an option, taking charge of your health, fitness, and function is simpler than ever.
-
What if I’m not sure I’ll have time for physical therapy or exercise? How much time will it take to see improvements?Traditional physical therapy can take a lot of time. You have to drive through Pittsburgh traffic to the clinic, wait for your physical therapist, participate in therapy, schedule another visit, and drive home (or to work, the grocery store, your grandkids’ preschool, wherever life says you need to go next). Power in Motion Rehab is a mobile physical therapy and wellness service based in Pittsburgh, PA. So, we come to you at your home, office, or even at your local track – as long as you’re located in the Greater Pittsburgh area. If you’re outside of Pittsburgh, we can also work with you virtually via telehealth. You’ll still need to put in consistent hard work outside of therapy to achieve results. But our mobile service really cuts down on logistical difficulties that traditional physical therapy comes with (and we think you’ll love that!). Physical therapy evaluations usually last between 1-1.5 hours. Physical therapy and wellness visits each last 1 hour (minimum). After your first visit, your physical therapist can provide you with an estimate of how many visits you may need to see improvement with your specific concerns.
-
Can you actually help me with my injury/weakness/endurance/balance/pain?Short answer: yes. Your pain, weakness, and worries can be solved with time, consistent effort, and teamwork. As physical therapists and fitness-forward clinicians, we’ll be able to create a program for you that will help address your concerns. We’ll always consider your medical history, medications, surgical history, and current physical abilities. And we’ll work together to accomplish whatever goals you have. Solving these problems is really important. Don’t let fear of falling, pain, or weakness get in the way of you living a full life.
-
What if I’m in a lot of pain or very weak? Can physical therapy help me?Many patients wonder about this. Pain and weakness can be huge limitations – but they don’t have to stop you from making progress. With consistency, resiliency, and a good physical therapist to guide you, you can overcome these things. We’ve even had patients work with us and end up feeling better than they ever did before.
-
Do I need a prescription for physical therapy? No. Dr. Kelly has her Direct Access license from the state of Pennsylvania. This means you do not need to have a prescription from your doctor before starting physical therapy. However, if you are working with Dr. Kelly for 30+ days, we will work with you and your doctor to obtain a script. This is required by the Physical Therapy Practice Act in Pennsylvania.
-
Do you wear a mask or personal protective equipment (PPE) during visits?Yes. Patient safety is our priority. We practice exceptional hand hygiene, and wear a mask for every session, with every patient.
-
What do I wear during physical therapy or a wellness visit? For best results during your visit, we need to be able to assess how your body is moving. You should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that will not restrict your movement. Wear the shoes you normally would for walking and daily activities.

First off - what is cash-based physical therapy? This is just a fancy way of saying you pay Power in Motion Rehab directly for services, instead of using your insurance.

Why should I choose to work with you if I have insurance? There are a few things to keep in mind here. You can save money in the long run. You’ll get personalized physical therapy for your entire session (1-hour minimum). This translates to faster results from therapy. Feeling better quickly is great – and it will save you money in the long run. Because you will likely have fewer therapy sessions overall. Scroll down to read our example of how this works. You’ll work with a board-certified physical therapist who is truly invested in your progress. We know your time and money are valuable! And we also know that if you aren’t seeing the results you want from physical therapy with Power in Motion Rehab, you’ll look elsewhere. In a large clinic, this might not be an issue. Because they already have so many patients. But as a small practice, we’ll notice when you’re not there (and we’ll miss you!). We always want to keep our clients happy and making progress – which is why we work closely with you to ensure we’re meeting your goals and needs.

How can cash-based physical therapy actually help me save money? In many insurance-based clinics, physical therapists are asked to treat multiple patients per hour in order to maximize the number of patients they can help and their insurance reimbursement (aka, the money the clinic makes). This can mean you’re working directly with the physical therapist for only 20-30 minutes, while a rehab aide or student finishes the rest of your session. We understand that these clinics are businesses that need to make money to continue providing services – but that model just doesn’t work for us and the high-quality care we want to provide. Here’s an example of how our payment model can actually save you money: Let’s say your insurance co-pay is $50 and you need 4 hours of physical therapy to improve your injury. If you go to an insurance-based clinic, you’ll receive: 4 hours of direct care from the physical therapist after ~8 visits, which costs you $400. You may also spend ~$50 on gas and parking for the month. Some of you may need to pay for childcare, which could cost an extra ~$20-30 (if you have a babysitter at ~$15/hour). Some of you may need to re-arrange your work schedule to make it to therapy, which can cost you even more money, depending on your employer. Total Cost for Physical Therapy at Insurance-Based Clinic = $400-$480 (or more!). With Power in Motion Rehab, you’ll receive: 4 hours of direct care from the physical therapist after 4 visits, which costs $400. You don’t need to travel or pay for gas or parking. You don’t need to arrange childcare. You don’t need to change your work schedule. Total Cost for Physical Therapy Through Power In Motion Rehab = $370 - $400 (discounts available if you bundle your sessions). Cash-based physical therapy allows us to provide individualized, 1:1 therapy without your insurance provider dictating: how long your therapy sessions are what type of physical therapy treatment is best for you how many visits you can have We like physical therapy better this way. And we think you will, too.

How do I pay for physical therapy?Power in Motion Rehab offers multiple payment options. We accept payment via cash, check, credit card (through Square), and Venmo. You are expected to pay in full at the time of your visit.
-
Do you work with patients with Medicare or Medicaid? We do not partner with Medicare or Medicaid at this time. Unfortunately, we are unable to work with patients who have these insurance plans for physical therapy. However, we are able to provide wellness visits for patients with Medicare and Medicaid. Wellness visits are different from physical therapy, but many of the benefits overlap.
